PLAY, HAVE FUN AND LEARN

To play is to have fun, learn, dream, discover, create, communicate, imagine, mix with others, reflect, pretend, invent, negotiate, develop, enjoy oneself…it is...so many things!

PLAY IS ESSENTIAL FOR CORRECT CHILD DEVELOPMENT

because it stimulates, encourages and allows all kinds of learning. The child does not only need to learn colours, numbers or other areas of formal learning related to intellectual development, but also needs to develop and evolve in other very important aspects such as movement co-ordination, language, socialisation, emotional development, etc. It is important to know that different types of toys help to promote this learning and development, and as adults, we should strive to provide sufficient, suitable and varied toys to ensure an integral development of our child's personality

SOME TIPS FOR CHOOSING TOYS:

1. Bear in mind the child's age and capabilities
2. Think of the child's preferences and not adult tastes
3. Give the child varied toys to encourage all-round development
4. Give toys as presents throughout the year
5. Be critical with advertising and teach children about it
6. Take heed of educational and age-related information that is normally included on the packaging
7. Look for and observe safety instructions
8. Do not make distinctions on grounds of the sex of the child
9. Try not to encourage violence or aggression when giving toys as presents
10. Be aware of all toys that can teach something
11. Give toys that make the child the protagonist, not the toy itself

And remember... play with them whenever you can. It is important!

The toy is always given, never imposed, and watching our children is possibly the best way to find out what interests them, what they need, or what would be most useful to them.
